CVPH may see increase in revenue for 2009

PLATTSBURGH Care provided to Medicare patients at CVPH Medical Center may generate several million additional dollars in revenue beginning in 2009. This announcement was made Aug. 27 by CVPH president and chief executive officer Stephens C. Mundy. The provision to increase reimbursement at CVPH came about because of the Plattsburgh facilitys unique status by Medicare as being a sole community hospital. That designation is granted to hospitals that are the sole source of hospital services in its community. The legislation passed earlier in August changed the methodology used in determining in-patient rates for sole community hospitals. The exact impact on CVPH is uncertain because final cost statistics are not yet available. We applaud our entire congressional delegation for supporting legislation that will enhance our financial position, Mundy stated. We especially want to recognize Representative John McHugh and Senator Charles Schumer for their exceptional support in behalf of CVPH. Mundy also praised Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce president Garry F. Douglas for his assistance in emphasizing the need and importance of improving inpatient rates at CVPH, the areas largest health-care provider and employer. The Plattsburgh medical center is the fifth largest sole community hospital in the United States and has held the designation for a number of years. As like many New York hospitals, CVPH has struggled through the years to maintain a strong financial position. The collective financial performance of New York hospitals has earned the rank of 49th in the nation. We are extremely pleased with this in-patient rate adjustment, Mundy said. The community is the primary beneficiary because any gain from operations is invested back into the medical center, and this could not come at a better time with our new surgery department opening in October.
