Sister City Association plans France exchange trip

SARANAC LAKE On August 14, the Saranac Lake Sister City Association hosted a membership meeting at the house of association President Edward (Ned) Long, in Saranac Lake. On the agenda: a trip to Saranac Lakes French sister city, Entrains-sur-Nohain. Last year, Saranac Lake welcomed about 20 residents from Entrains-sur-Nohain, who came to discover the Adirondacks and its legendary hospitality. The goal of the association is to foster cultural and understanding between residents of its sister cities.Saranac Lake is also paired with Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, in Quebecs Laurentian region, which shares a history tied to the Tuberculosis era. At the meeting, representatives from Entrains, Kenneth, No_e and Audrey Weissberg as well as Claudia Couture who was instrumental in starting the sister association with Ste-Agathe, also attended the meeting. We were initially planning an exchange with Entrains this year, Long said. But with airfare prices and the value of the Euro rising sharply and with no warning, we decided to wait one year and give an opportunity to interested parties to participate in the exchange. The exchange is scheduled for late June 2009. People interested in participating can contact me Long said. Its a great way to learn how people in other countries live as we stay with local families when we visit. For more information or to participate in the exchange trip next year, please contact Ned Long at 518-891-1597 or njlong89134@yahoo.com.
