Hospice to host annual memorial butterfly release

PLATTSBURGH The skies over City Hall will be filled with what has been called an amazing sight as Hospice of the North Country hosts is third annual Memorial Butterfly Release. The event, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, is a unique way to remember a friend or loved one lost over the years, said Hospice director of development Amanda M. Bow. The butterfly release is just a great way to honor or recognize someone, said Bow. Its very neat. Its very symbolic. The butterflies have been secured through Swallowtail Farms in El Dorado Hills, Calif., since the event began in 2006, said Bow. Approximately 120 monarch butterflies will be released simultaneously next Sunday at 1 p.m. So far, more than 50 butterflies have been purchased, she said. The cost to purchase a butterfly is $15. Butterflies may be purchased by calling the Plattsburgh office of Hospice of the North Country at 561-8465. Proceeds from the butterfly release will benefit Hospice of the North Country, which provides end-of-life care to those in need.
