Celebration coming

To the Times of Ti: Its less than a year away! Were eagerly planning now for the 2009 Celebration Champlain activities... activities that will inspire, inform, educate and entertain! Were looking for your support to make history! 2009 Celebration Champlain will be a year long event highlighting the unparalleled history, the unique culture and the unequaled natural resources of New York State. Ticonderoga will be in the forefront of activity as plans are being developed to memorialize Samuel de Champlains discovery of Lake Champlain. Our community can expect the summer of 2009 to be filled with extraordinary events, exciting and grand fun for all. The 2009 Celebration Champlain Committee was formed in 1999 to promote Ticonderoga and to support the commemoration. The Committee developed a legacy project, a monument honoring Samuel de Champlain to be located in Bicentennial Park, on the northerly side of the LaChute River, a stream that runs two miles from the outlet of Lake George through the village of Ticonderoga to Lake Champlain. As part of this plan, the grounds surrounding the memorial site will be reforested, returning this area back to its natural habitat, much like that which existed when Champlain first made his historic visit to our area. This memorial site will offer a destination for recreation, tourism, education and ongoing horticultural expansion, advancing the quality of the Southern Lake Champlain environment and the lives of those of us who live, work and visit here. Our vision is a grand one, resulting in a lasting legacy of which we can all be proud. Our goal is to reach $75,000 to fully complete this Champlain monument project. Today, we can proudly say we have raised $20,000 and have been awarded several grants to assist us with this unique endeavor. We look to you, the community, for your ideas, your energies and your financial support. Please consider a generous donation toward Ticonderogas commemoration of 2009 Celebration Champlain. Your contribution is tax-deductible. Please make checks payable to our 501c3 co-sponsoring organization, the Ticonderoga Historical Society and mail to the Ticonderoga Historical Society, c/o 2009 Champlain Celebration, 6 Moses Circle, Ticonderoga 12883. We thank you for your gift. The success of this tremendous project is made possible by the commitment and generosity of you, our supporters. William Dolback, Chairman 2009 Celebration Champlain Committee Ticonderoga
