Camper in critical condition

TUPPER LAKE A 58 year-old man from Nassau, NY is in critical condition following an explosion that occurred at a hunting camp Sunday, Aug. 31. According to State Police, Andrew Schillinger was severy injured after an explosion occurred at his one-story hunting camp on Pitchfork Pond Road. Investigators said a neighbor found Schillinger after hearing the explosion. The neighbor then loaded Schillinger into a vehicle an began driving toward Adirondack Medical Center, at which point they met up with members of the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. The camper was eventually transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. State Police said that Schillinger suffered third-degree burns to at least 80 percent of his body. Firefighters from Tupper Lake spent the better part of Sunday night containing the fire, which reportedly engulfed the entire building. On Monday, Sept. 1 members of the Franklin County Cause and Origin Team returned to the camp to establish the cause of the explosion, which destroyed the entire camp, and deemed it accidental.
