Homeless veterans are focus of drive

RUTLAND The Homeless Veterans Standdown is a community program that supplies homeless Veterans with some basic everyday needs. This years Standdown is being held Sept. 19-20, at the Salvation Army Corps Building at 22 Wales St. in Rutland. Help us show the men and women who fought for our country that we havent forgotten them. There are homeless veterans in our community that need a helping hand and are very thankful for anything that can help them get on their feet. Our community has shown our soldiers great support. Now we can help the Veterans that have returned and are struggling to cope with their own personal battles. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 27 in Middlebury is accepting donations for our homeless Veterans, and will help pack and distribute Ditty Bags of items at the Standdown. Please drop off any donations of the following items at the American Legion Post 27, located at 11 Wilson Rd. (behind G. Stone Motors) in Middlebury by Sept. 15. For a list of needed items, please call the American Legion Post 27 in Middlebury at 802-388-9311 or Valerie Costello, Auxiliary Unit 27, at 802-352-1027 with any questions. Donations can also be made by check (please make checks payable to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 27, and note in the memo 2008 Standdown).
