Three women arrested on assault charges

PLATTSBURGH The Plattsburgh Police Department has arrested three local women for their involvement in a gang assault first reported Oct. 18. Police had investigated an altercation on Broad Street resulting in the arrest of Sharelle L. Phillips, 18, Plattsburgh, for second-degree criminal contempt. Officers arrested Phillips for striking and injuring Avanzato 18-year-old Amanda E. Avanzato with a metal object resembling a lug wrench. As a result of the investigation into this incident the following women were arrested and charged with second-degree gang assault, a Class D violent felony: Kristen E. McDuffie, 22, and Rachel D. McDuffie, 18, both of Plattsburgh. A youthful offender was also arrested whose name and information is being withheld due to her age. The three women, all acting in concert with the others, attacked and physically assaulted Phillips, causing physical injuries. Each woman appeared in Plattsburgh City Court Oct. 27 before the Hon. Penelope D. Clute. Kristen McDuffie was sent to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $2,000 bail or $4,000 bond. Both Rachel McDuffie and the youthful offender were released on the pretrial release program. Further court action is pending for all three women.
