Local kids celebrate Fall Fun Day

BAKERS MILLS An estimated 60 area children braved the rainy weather and converged on a property in Bakers Mills this weekend to celebrate the fifth annual Fall Fun Day. Funded by the Johnsburg Youth Committee, the event has grown from humble beginnings to become a wholesome and entertaining day of crafts, games, and outdoor fun. We originally started it five years ago in an effort to offer another alternative to Halloween, event organizer Trena Riedinger said. It has certainly expanded from that concept. Over the years we have come to know and love the kids of our community and this event offers [my husband] Rob and I an opportunity to try to be a light to them. In addition to the support granted by the youth committee, several area businesses have stepped forward to help promote and improve the event. Event sponsors include: Nemecs Sport Shop of Warrensburg (with dramatically discounted pumpkins), Johnsburg Central School staff and teachers (homework coupons, treats, and table prizes), Cafe Sarah (free cookie coupons), Capri Pizza (free pizza slices), Emmys Video (100 free movie rental coupons, and Nice & Easy (free pizza). We appreciate all the donations, Riedinger said. The kids love them!
