Errors, passes cost Burghers contest against Canajoharie

WARRENSBURG Penalties, errors and a lack of close pass coverage were factors in the Warrensburg Football teams 28-0 loss Saturday to Canajoharie. As he was preparing for Thursdays sectional game against high-ranked Rensselaer, Warrensburg coach Mike Leonbruno said his teams mistakes and malaise were at fault. We came out flat, we werent ready to play, he said. Then we had a lot of mistakes and penalties that hurt us. The team did a good job at slowing down Canajoharies ground game, but had trouble with their passing attack. Canajoharie Quarterback Peyton Stahler passed for two touchdowns one of them for 60 yards and scored another on the ground. A Canajoharie running back scored the fourth. During the 2008 season, the Warrensburg team has been renowned for giving up points early on turnovers, but battling back to win the games. Leonbruno said Sunday he hopes that his team will concentrate on their strengths, eliminate their mistakes, and grind out a win Thursday night against Rensselaer, which is ranked 10th in the state. Weve been competitive in every game this year, he said. Hopefully everything will come together for this game.
