Flammer seeks wide audience for her tips on child academic development

WARRENSBURG Adirondack Journal columnist JoAnn Flammer has published a book based on material she presented this past year in issues of this newspaper. The book, offering parents tips on guiding children's academic and intellectual development, is titled Giving Your Child an Edge the same title as her column in the Adirondack Journal. A retired teacher and volunteer in North Warren Central School, Flammer introduced the book to the public last weekend at the Chronicle Book Fair in Glens Falls. At the Oct. 19 fair, JoAnn Flammer joined more than 120 authors, publishers, and booksellers at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls to meet the public and discuss her work. Giving Your Child an Edge offers practical tips and strategies for parents who seek to boost their childrens learning ability and academic success, especially in reading, The book was launched, Flammer said, after she received many positive comments from parents, grandparents, and teachers and decided to collate the columns into a parenting handbook. She added a page at the end of each section for parents to take notes on strategies as they apply them in home life. At the fair, Flammers new book was well received, she said,with buyers purchasing the book for themselves as well as for their adult children as a Christmas gifts. JoAnns first book, The Last Wish, an adventurous chapter book for pre-teens, was also available at the fair. Both books can be purchased at www.lulu.com or at joannflammer.com.
