Moriah, Ticonderoga gridders roll on

Moriah remained undefeated with a 35-20 win against Saranac in Northern Football Conference play Oct. 18. Jim Carlson and Ron Schofield had big games for the Vikings, now 7-0 on the season. Carlson ran for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns. he also had an interception on defense. Schofield scored a pair of TDs, including one on an 85-yard kick off return for the Vikings. Carlsons interception came on the games fifth play and set up a 30-yard scoring pass from Tyler Blaise to Schofield. Tyson Fernandez booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead. After Saranac knotted the contest, Schofield returned the ensuing kick off for a score to give Moriah the lead for good. Fernandez again added the PAT. A pair of Carlson touchdown runs, each from 7 yards out, and PATs by Fernandez gave Moriah a 28-7 advantage in the second period. Nick Gilbo closed out the scoring for Moriah, crashing in from 7 yards away in the third period. Fernandez added his fifth extra point of the tilt. Ticonderoga 34, St. Lawrence 0 Ticonderoga had no trouble with winless St. Lawrence, posting a 34-0 win in Northern Football Conference play Oct. 18. Ticonderoga is 5-2 on the season. Austin Bryant rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Sentinel attack. Robert Kearns paced the Ti defense, returning an interception 20 yards for a TD. Ticonderoga got a 20-yard TD run from Matt Bussey and a 3-yard scoring run from Bryant in the opening period. Jon Molina added the extra point after each score for a 14-0 lead. Anthony Barnao hit Mike Pockett with a 25-yard TD pass and Kearns scored on his interception in the second period. Molina again added the PATs and Ticonderoga was up 28-0 at the intermission. Austin closed out the scoring, breaking free on a 62-yard TD gallop in the third period for the Sentinels.
