Event honors women in the ministry

BURLINGTON The Most Rev. Salvatore R. Matano, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, presided over the eighth annual Recognition of Women in Ministry ceremony at Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Randolph recently. Twenty-three honorees selected by their peers in Vermont parishes were celebrated during the special ceremony. Bishop Matano said This annual event to recognize these very dedicated, talented, and selfless servants of the Church in Vermont is always a joyful occasion. As usual, we invited all friends, neighbors and fellow parishioners of these women to attend the ceremony. Rev. John J. McDermott, chancellor and moderator of the curia for the diocese, together with Rev. Peter A. Routhier, diocesan vicar general, assisted Bishop Matano at the ceremony. Deacon David Brisson of St. Monica Parish in Barre, Jessie Baker, Joan Goldsworthy, Patrice Conard, and Llynne Kiernan also participated in the ceremony. The following women were honored: Elaine Audy, St. Patrick, Wallingford; Patricia Beatty, St. Raphael, Poultney; Dorothy Bedard, St. Anthony-St. George, East Fairfield; Mary Berthiaume, Holy Family-St. Lawrence, Essex Junction; Cheryl Connor, St. Bernadett, Bridport; Marie Cookson, St. Jude, Hinesburg; Therese Densmore, St. John the Baptist, No. Bennington; Beatrice Desjardins, St. Mary, Cambridge. Sr. Elizabeth Driscoll, RSM, St. Monica, Barre; Millie Dupell, Our Lady of the Valley, Townshend; Bernadette Ferenc, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Williston; Denise Ferrari, St. Monica, Barre; Roberta Gallerani, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bradford; Karen Halpin, St. Joseph Co-Cathedral Burlington; Arlene Kathan, St. Michael, Brattleboro.
