Club receives $18,000 Wal-Mart gift

RUTLAND Officials of the Boys and Girls Club of Rutland County accepted an $18,000 check by Wal-Mart to begin a teen outreach program in Rutland County. This grant money will enable the club to expand its part-time teen center coordinator position to full time; the cooridinators extra hours will be spent as a teen outreach coordinator out in the community connecting disenfranchised teens with community and social services. The teen outreach coordinator, Brooke Nuckles, will connect teens with services such as emergency shelter, adult education, family support services, and job training. The long-term goal of the teen outreach program is to reduce drug related crime in Rutland City and the surrounding communities.
