Busy September with great weather

The month of September brought with it great weather, students returning to school, and local fruits and vegetables. I personally love this time of year as cool evenings and comfortable days are truly enjoyable. The Battle of Plattsburgh celebration was one of the best in its history. The parade was exceptional. The Cobourg Marine Band was once again very special as I have become friendly with its members and the Mayor of Cobourg, Peter Delanty. Kit Booth and his entire committee deserve kudos on a job well done. PARC executive director Bruce Steadman and I met several times regarding city issues. I had the privilege to attend and deliver a proclamation honoring our POW/MIAs at the prayer vigil in the Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel. I have always supported our military and families as they are responsible for all of our freedoms we enjoy. The FLW Fishing Series held a major event which was attended by one of the largest crowds in recent memory. Plattsburgh State held a press event to donate $21,500 to the City of Plattsburgh for fire protection services. Dr. Ettling and his staff worked with SUNY officials to initiate this program for 20 years to assist the city in the future purchase of fire equipment. Councilor Chris Jackson was instrumental in working with PSUC which resulted in a partnership important to the city and college. I am thankful for their generosity. I also attended a kick-off meeting for the Saranac Bike Trail and a public hearing on Brownfield Opportunity Area development. The most significant time, however, has been spent on city budget sessions. The council and I are reviewing each departmental budget and will be addressing the financial issues facing the city through the end of October. It is a difficult period but we all will do the best we can to handle these challenges. Donald Kasprzak is the mayor of the city of Plattsburgh. His column appears regularly in the Clinton County Free Trader Today.
