Women in business: moving forward

STOWE Women business owners from every part of Vermont will gather on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 6-7 at Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stowe for a two-day conference sponsored by the Women Business Owners Network (WBON). Apropos of the times, the conference Succeeding in an Uncertain Economy: Financial Tips and Words of Wisdom, will feature four women business owners sharing their words of wisdom. From managing your finances to retirement strategies, conference-goers will also hear from women who have worked with banking partners in order to grow their business. Thursday evenings agenda will feature Donna Carpenter, co-owner of Burton Snowboards, Carpenter is also the founder and director of Burtons womens initiatives that ensures that Burton is the employer and brand of choice for women. Through Carpenters leadership, Burton established the womens product and creative departments and internal committees that focus on retaining and promoting women within their organization. Uli Belenky is on the docket to speak on Friday morning. Belenky is the co-founder of Zutano, a childrens clothing design and manufacturing company located in Cabot. Belenky, along with her husband and business partner Michael, have created a sustainable company that demonstrates profitable financial growth along with value added programs that foster mutually beneficial relationships between employees, consumers, suppliers and affiliates. Belenky will share the story of Zutano and how it has grown over the years to serving over 1,000 independent retailers nationwide. The conference is open to all women in business and Topnotch is a wonderful venue not to be missed for one day or both. The Women Business Owners Network was founded in 1984 to support entrepreneurial women in New England who own their own businesses.
