New York City theatre company to perform in Northern Tier Wednesday

CHAMPLAIN If you cant get to a big city production, bring the big city production to you. Thats exactly whats being done by the Mooers Elementary School Parent-Teacher Partnership and the Rouses Point Elementary School Parent Support Group. The two organizations have coordinated with New York City production company Theatreworks USA to bring Nate the Great to Northeastern Clinton Central Schools center stage Wednesday, Oct. 8. Jennifer Judkins, vice president of the Mooers Elementary group, said the Mooers school was contacted by Theatreworks USA, informing them theyd be in the area and were wanting to know if any of the local schools would be interested in hosting a performance. We jumped at the chance to get them, said Judkins. A few years ago, Mooers Elementary hosted a Theatreworks USA production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, though that performance was only open to students during a school assembly. Ever since then, weve been looking for something to do in the evenings as a sort of outreach for the community, especially during the winter months when there doesnt seem to be as much to do, said Judkins. When we heard theyd be up this way in October, we thought it would be great to open their performance up to the community. The kids loved them. Were hoping we get a good response so we can try to do this again, she added. According to the Theatreworks USA Web site, Nate the Great is the story of Nate, a pint-size young detective who has had success in finding things like lost balloons, books, slippers, chickens, and even a goldfish. However, when Nates neighbor, Annie, asks for help in finding her missing painting, it takes all of Nates bravery to solve the toughest case of his career. Nate, who believes great detectives work alone, finds unraveling mysteries is easier and more fun with a partner. Advance tickets for the 6:30 p.m. performance are available through Mooers and Rouses Point Elementary schools, 236-7373 and 297-7211, respectively, for $3 each or $5 at the door. Children ages 12 and younger will be admitted free. Northeastern Clinton Central School is located at 103 State Route 276. For more information, contact Judkins through Mooers Elementary, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
