Amanda Schlaeg of North Warren High School awarded for academics, character

CHESTERTOWN Amanda Schlaeg, a Senior at North Warren Central School, has been named local Student of the Month for October by the Chestertown Rotary Club. The daughter of Wayne and Mary Schlaeg of Chestertown, Amanda is considered by teachers and peers to be compassionate, musically talented, patient, thoughtful and reliable, according to school counselor Mchael Therio and Rotarian David Schlansker. Amanda has played flute in the North Warrens band, and her musical talents have been recognized through the NYSSMA and CASMA music competitions. Last year Amanda was selected by the faculty as Adirondack Journal Student of the Month. She also was selected to attend the Russell Sage Creative Arts in Therapy Honors Weekend. This year, Amanda was elected as her class treasurer and is a member of the schools Quiz Bowl Team. Amanda is active in her community as well, volunteering for many beneficial efforts through Girl Scouts wi which she has achieved the prestigious rank of Silver Award. Amanda has worked as an enthusiastic teacher assistant in the schools Summer Fun program and enjoyed working with the children, Therio said. Also, Amanda has been a member of the high schools Foreign Language Club. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys activities with her family and friends, along with reading, composing music and playing the flute. Interested in the well-being of others, Amanda is considered by her peers to be valuable friend with high ethical standards who leads by example and the positive choices she makes in her life, Therio said. She is hoping to study Nursing at Adirondack Community College in fall 2009.
