Salvation Army plans annual Thanksgiving dinner for the public

PLATTSBURGH Aside from getting out into the public during the holidays with its Red Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army is also preparing for its annual Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner will be held for its second year at Elks Lodge 621, located at 56 Cumberland Ave. It will be held Thanksgiving Day from 12-2 p.m., with seating beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m. What we tried last year was partnering with the Elks Lodge, explained Salvation Army Capt. Wendy Goodman. And, it worked out really well. A lot of their members were excited to get involved to help us out. Goodman hopes this year will be even bigger and better than previous years, adding musical entertainment will also be on the menu. Hoping to serve nearly 300 people this year, donations of food have been coming in from businesses and individuals throughout the community. We had Plattsburgh State, I believe their girls volleyball team and another sports team just did a food drive for us, said Goodman. Other businesses such as Pepsi are donating beverages and Hood is donating milk and creamers. Its a really nice community effort, Goodman said. This year, the Salvation Army is also offering transportation from their location at 4804 S. Catherine St. with a shuttle van bringing people to and from the Elks Lodge. Its a great meal and we have all the trimmings and a beautiful setting, said Goodman. Come for free, who could pass that up?
