Children of Winter

LAKE PLACID Deep powder. Huge air. World-class cinematography. Its all part of the worlds largest action sports film, which is set to music by Radiohead, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Beck, and others. Warren Millers Children of Winter will be at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Shown in crystal-clear high definition, the film tour crisscrosses the nation and nine countries worldwide, and is set to screen in Lake Placid for one-night-only. General admission is $17; LPCA Members $15. Tickets can be purchased by calling the LPCA at 523-2512. Doors open at 6:30 pm when we invite you to mingle with the sponsors along with friendly representatives from NYSEF (additional local sponsors to be announced), as they kick off the evenings festivities with a sneak peek at their newest winter inventory and offerings. Lake Placid Pub and Brewery will also be on hand with tasty samples of their favorite brews. Each movie patron will have the chance to win one of approximately 20 door prizes donated by these businesses, which will be given away prior to the screening. Prize giveaways will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the film immediately following. Warren Millers 2008 film tour showcases spectacular footage shot in Japan, Austria, British Columbia, Alaska, and Iceland with jaw-dropping performances by an impressive assembly of world-class athletes, including Jonny Moseley, Daron Rahlves, Marco Sullivan, Seth Wescott, Gerry Lopez, and Wendy Fisher. When its cold and snowing, others run inside, said Max Bervy, the films director and producer. But skiers and snowboarders do the opposite, no matter how old we are. We are all the children of winter, and if you ski or ride, this movie reaffirms what we all know, that were lucky to know the shortest, coldest days of the year.
