Hospice workers deserve praise

To the editor: November is National Hospice Month, a time to celebrate those who provide hospice and palliative care to those in our community and help raise awareness of quality care at the end of life. We are fortunate to have our experienced staff and trained volunteers offering care and support during one of life's most challenging journeys. I encourage all those in our community to thank these dedicated individuals and support the ongoing work of High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care. Here is a letter we received from the family of a patient we served: Dear Hospice, I want to thank you for all you did for our mother. At times I was overwhelmed by the love, and compassion that I witnessed. You treated her with much dignity, respect and hope. I am very grateful. I also want to thank you for the encouragement and support you gave my sister. I believe it helped her to be able to continue to care for our mother. And of course I want to thank you for your support to me. Whether it was returning my phone calls from Maine, or stopping in to meet me while I was in the area and explaining to me what was happening to our mother. Knowing we were not alone and knowing we had someone we could talk to was a comfort. You are truly gifted women and men who journey with those who are preparing to leave this earthly world for the new world heaven.
