Greater hardships mean more volunteers needed to staff kettles

To the editor: As a representative of The Salvation Army in Essex, Hamilton, Saratoga, and Warren counties, I have the opportunity to speak with many people in the area. The story is the same wherever I go: The number of hungry families is growing. The number of families who need assistance with utilities and rent is growing. There are families and individuals facing hardships, losing jobs and losing their homes. In short, the downturn in the economy has brought hardship to many more families. As a result, The Salvation Army is finding that its resources are being stretched. We need your help. We need many more volunteer bellringers, especially bellringer groups who will ring for larger blocks of time. Please, call and volunteer. You can make a difference in your community. Help lighten the burden for struggling families in your community. To volunteer, call The Red Kettle Center anytime, day or night at 877-764-7259, or online at www.redkettles.org. Thank you for caring, Rick Damore The Salvation Army
