Good things in Orwell

To the editor: Saturday evening, Oct. 25, our biggest fundraiser of the year took place. We call it the Fortnightly Cafe. We are the Orwell Fortnightly Club. Dee Beckman, president of the General Federated Woman Clubs, attended (of which the Orwell Fortnightly Club is a proud member of this national organization). We transformed a cafertia into a romantic restaurant with lots of wonderful atmosphere. Many volunteer hours go into this one, even some of our husbands help us out. Linda Martin, our Fortnightly Cafe Committee chair, did an excellent job as usual. This is our sixth year and all the volunteers who make this dinner happen worked long and hard to make it a most enjoyable event. The evening started off with many appetizers and sparkling apple cider. From there everyone was escorted to their tables where they were served a scrumptious meal. The night ended with a choice of delicious desserts. All enjoyed the night out on the town. Appreciation dedication for six years as Fortnightly Caf頃ommittee chair goes to Linda Martin. Always a job well done with many thanks and appreciation from the entire membership of the Orwell club. Loretta Lee, vice president and Lynn Gallagher, secretary presented a plaque and houseplant to Linda Martin at the Nov. 4 meeting. And now we can rest! Joan King, Orwell
