Fletcher "Buster" Brush will be missed

MIDDLEBURY Cooperative Insurance Companies Customer Relations Manager Fletcher Buster Brush passed away Nov. 7. Brush was involved with many local and state community service organizations including the Youth Safety Council of Vermont, the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, the Middlebury Rotary Club, the Salisbury Historical Society and Village Cemetery Restoration Project, the Middlebury Community House and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Brush was instrumental in planning and fundraising for the construction of the Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury, which was a privately funded, community recreational facility. He was an assistant coach for the Middlebury Union High School varsity hockey team for several years, and was a board member of the Middlebury Junior Golf Association. With the assistance of his nephew, Ryan Fowler, he created a website called UnderBrush.org., which assists Vermont genealogy researchers and raises money for the Vermont Old Cemetery Association. Born Nov. 5, 1949 and raised in Middlebury, Brush was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including Middlebury College awards, Rotary awards, the Herb Painter Award from the Vermont Governors Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and the Addison County Chamber of Commerce Presidents Award. He attended Middlebury Union High School and Champlain College. A memorial service will be held for Brush this Saturday, Nov. 15, 1 p.m., at Mead Memorial Chapel on the Middlebury College campus.
