Salvation Army partners with Elks to serve Thanksgiving dinner

PLATTSBURGH The Salvation Army in Plattsburgh is partnering with the Elks Lodge to provide an annual Thanksgiving dinner for individuals and families in need. Last year we served in excess of 200 people on Thanksgiving Day, and this year we are hoping to serve at least 300, said Capt. Larry Goodman, director of the local Salvation Army. We also are extending a special investigation to our local brother in blue our firefighters and police officers to join us this Thanksgiving. According to Goodman, the Elks Lodge at 56 Cumberland Ave. has a large kitchen and dining room facility, and an outstanding view of Lake Champlain. Seating will begin at 11:30 a.m., with dinner starting at noon. Dinner includes ham and turkey with all the trimmings, plus festive holiday music. The Salvation Army will provide transportation from its facility at 4804 South Catherine Street to the Elks Lodge. Individuals may start arriving as early as 10 a.m. Wed like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our partners at the Elks Lodge for the use of their facility, as well as the numerous volunteer hours they have given in partnering to serve the community during this holiday season, said Goodman.
