New CVPH entrance opens

PLATTSBURGH The new front entrance to CVPH Medical Center opened Nov. 3 as a part of the surgical department construction project. In addition the new patient registration department along with blood draw and EKG, cashiers and patient counselors also opened. The front lobby includes a new reception desk, waiting areas and in late January a new gift shop. Newly-paved visitor parking lots are also opening. The new second-floor surgery department extends out to create a covered walkway from the parking lots to the front door. The front entrance to CVPH closed May 14, 2007, in order to construct new operating rooms at the front of the medical center. The first surgeries were performed Oct. 18. The $35 million project has run ahead of schedule and under budget. Initially the schedule called for completion of new construction in January. The second phase of the project is underway now to remodel the old surgery suites and recovery area in order to create a new post-anesthesia care unit and surgical support space. Completion is anticipated by late spring.
