Fire damages St. George home

ST. GEORGE On Nov. 4, at approximately 11:47 p.m., the Hinesburg Fire Department responded to 65 Birch Road in St. George Villa Trailer Park for a mobile home fire at the residence of Matthew Alger, age 24. Fire Chief Al Barbour advised upon their arrival that fire was showing on the south side of the residence. The fire was quickly extinguished using compressed air foam and a small amount of water. The sole occupant of the trailer was able to escape the trailer without injury prior to the Fire Departments arrival. The Vermont State Police were contacted to request assistance in conducting an Origin and Cause investigation. Fire Investigators from the Division of Fire Safety and the Vermont State Police responded this afternoon to the scene. The investigation has not been completed and therefore the cause of the fire is undetermined. Fire investigators will be returning to the scene tomorrow to continue with the investigation. No one was injured in the fire. Although the fire was quickly extinguished the trailer sustained heavy smoke and heat damage. Damage estimate is $30,000.
