Neighborhood House resident turns 101

KEENE VALLEY Alma Beeman celebrated her 101st birthday on Oct. 22, but you wouldnt guess it by looking at her. The Keene Valley Neighborhood House resident is still sharp as a tack, cracking jokes and reminiscing about days past. Im one, said Beeman. Im starting over. The Clintonville native has lived at KVNH since 2003. Though her eyesight and hearing have diminished somewhat, she is still very active and enjoys taking frequent walks in and around the grounds. Maybe when I get old, I wont be able to, she said. When asked what keeps her so happy and healthy, Alma said that the walks she frequently takes make a big difference. Youve got to keep moving, she said. With her husband and both of her children now deceased, Beeman fondly remembered how several of her family members came to visit for her centennial last year. A few of her in-laws came once again this year to join KVNH staff and residents in celebrating yet another milestone. The girls are all terrific, said Beeman, expressing appreciation for the interaction she gets with KVNH staff. I like it here and Im happy here.
