Ticonderoga finishes undefeated; Crown Point wins title

Crown Point won the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference softball title with an 8-2 victory over Indian Lake/Long Lake May 23. The Northern Division champion Panthers scored six times in the first inning and rolled to the win. Jordan McGinness had three hits and two runs batted in for Crown Point, while Ashley Zapolski plated a pair of runs. Jonalee Ross was the winning pitcher, fanning eight in five innings. Ticonderoga 14, Moriah 1 Katie Karkoski had a no-hitter until the final inning as Ticonderoga beat Moriah, 14-1, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball action May 21. Liz Wallace had a run-scoring double with two outs in the seventh for Moriahs lone hit. Karkoski fanned 11 in her gem. Arielle Vilardo and Anna Besson each had three hits for the Sentinel offense. Samantha Cawley and Julie Thompson each had two hits for the winners, while Juliann Mandy ripped a home run. Moriah 12, NAC 5 Moriah beat Northern Adirondack, 12-5, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball action May 27 Kaylee Spague hurled a complete game for the mound victory. She also had a base knock for the Vikings, who took advantage of 12 walks for the win. Willsboro 23, Schroon Lake 8 Willsboro 15, Schroon Lake 8 Schroon Lake dropped a doubleheader to Willsboro in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference softball play May 21. Willsboro won the opener, 23-8. Savannah Clark and Mindy Whitty each had two hits for Schroon. Willsboro took the nightcap, 15-8. Mindy Whitty had three hits, including a home run, and three RBI for the Wildcats. Moriah 6, Seton 2 Moriah topped Seton Catholic, 6-2, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball action May 23. Kaylee Sprague fanned 14 while scattering seven hits for the mound victory. Chelsea Cutting had two hits for the Vikings, while Faith Johnson had a pair of RBI. Ticonderoga 21, Lake Placid 4 Ticonderoga crushed Lake Placid, 21-4, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball action May 23. Katie Karkoski led the way, blasting a grand slam home run and pitching a fiver-hitter. She fanned seven. Morgan Jordan added two hits for Ti. Ticonderoga 6, AVCS 3 Ticonderoga completed a perfect league season by beating AuSable Valley, 6-3, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference softball action May 26. Katie Karkoski had three hits and hurled five innings to gain the mound victory for Ti, which went 16-0 in CVAC action and is 18-2 overall. Morgan Jordon had two RBI for the Sentinels.
