PLATTSBURGH Meadowbrook Healthcare recently hosted several events in recognition of National Nursing Home Week May 11-17. The weeks theme was Love is Ageless. The facility hosted a variety of programs for residents to enjoy, including a pet parade, performance by the RSVP Kitchen Band, a Food Around The World program, a beach party and an outdoor garden party. The pet parade was held May 12, attended by residents, family members and staff who brought in dogs, cats and even a snake to be a part of the festivities. Prizes were offered for Most Adorable Pet, Best Dressed Pet, and Most Unique. The Meadowbrook dietary department sponsored a Food Around The World program May 14. Those in attendance were able to sample unique food items from countries such as Norway, North Africa, Indonesia and Romania. The following day, the rehab department at Meadowbrook sponsored a beach party, complete with a barbecue, games, music and other activities. Residents were able to try games such as the Octopus Ring Toss and Limbo. The week came to a close with a clear day for a garden party that brought residents outside to prepare their own flower gardens for summer. Everyone had an opportunity to help plant as they feasted on chocolate-covered strawberries and watermelon. The day even included a visit from the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers, giving residents an opportunity to take a tour of the many classic vehicles. Vicki Marking, Meadowbrook community relations coordinator, said it was a very special week for all and gave residents a wonderful variety of programs and activities.
