Students video contest for homeless youth

The Warren-Washington Counties Homeless Youth Coalition is holding a video contest for area students in grades K-12. Participating students will write, direct and produce a 30-second video public service announcement about the coalitions mission of providing emergency shelter and services for homeless and runaway youths ages 16-21. For details, visit www.hycwaithouse.org. The deadline to submit a pre-application for the contest is June 15. The deadline to submit the completed video is September 1. There will be three age divisions in the contest. The winning videos will premier Sept. 24 at the Wood Theater at the Coalitions annual Gala. The winners will also have the opportunity to meet Gala guest Carissa Phelps, once a homeless child prostitute on the streets of Fresno, CA at the age of 12. She graduated last year from UCLA with an MBA and Law Degree. Carissa will present a documentary about her life created by UCLA film students.
