Indian Lake Theater announces grand opening

INDIAN LAKE The site of some of Indian Lakes most treasured memories is about to turn the page on a new chapter in its life. On Saturday, May 31, the screen at the Indian Lake Theater will come alive with a full schedule of movies and entertainment, just in time for the start of the summer season. The theater will be open with one show per night on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through June with a mix of first-run films and classic pictures. Their first release this weekend will be the smash hit, Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. Recently, a group of area volunteers committed themselves to renovating the lobby portion of the theater - including new paint, light fixtures, and sprucing-up the popular concession stand. Theater board officials also announced the hiring of Ms. Colleen Doyle of North Creek, as Theater Planning Director. With a background in childrens theatre, event planning and promotion, she was chosen for the position from a group of highly qualified candidates. For me, I think Colleen added to our vision of being much more than a movie house, ILT Board President, Ben Strader, says. She was somebody who came to the Adirondacks to bring theater and cultural opportunities to the region and I believe she has the drive and vision to make the theater what we all believe it can be. While the theater will initially stay true to their mission of bringing quality entertainment to the area through mainstream Hollywood, and independent films, its the goal of expansion into live theater and other cultural events that interested Doyle. "I see the enormous potential of this old theater, there's a place for everyone in the community from school kids to seniors all year here," said Doyle in a recent public statement. Future plans include literary readings, live theater performances, dance troupes, and musical events - in addition to current and classic movie presentations. A current movie schedule, upcoming performances, and future plans will be posted on their Web site, at www.indianlaketheater.org . Over the summer, theater volunteers will focus their attention on the exterior of the building - with the intent of presenting an image of Main Street that the entire town can be proud of. "We want to build excitement about this project," Doyle added. On Friday, May 30, the theater welcomed a group of community members and donors to an invitation-only gathering and special viewing of their first feature film. The event was intended to recognize the over 500 donors and people who had dedicated their time and effort to the project. "After that, it's lights, camera, action. Lots of action," Doyle said.
