New kiosk helps expedite shipping

CHAMPLAIN A new kiosk has been established at the Champlain border crossing as a means to expedite the clearance of commercial shipments crossing between the U.S. and Canada. YRC Logistics has established the new kiosk to increase communication with carriers and enable faster processing of shipments, allowing the company to better meet the needs of its clients, said a company spokesperson. In a press release from YRC Logistics, a global logistics company based in Overland Park, Kan., the Champlain crossing was announced as one of seven locations along the U.S.-Canada border where the technology is now implemented. The new kiosks which are also located in New York at the Peace Bridge crossing in Buffalo and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge in Niagara Falls will be centrally managed by brokerage experts in Buffalo, NY office, YRC Logistics Cross Borders main headquarters. The four other kiosks have been established in Michigan, North Dakota and Washington. The kiosks, located within the YRC Logistics office in the Champlain border crossing facility, consist of a camera and telephone which allow communication with the drivers as they present necessary paperwork for Customs clearance. Once the driver arrives at the kiosk, communication connects them to the Buffalo office and the driver then scans any required documents based upon the client and the type of goods being shipped. The Buffalo office reviews the documents and returns the required information back to the driver for immediate Customs processing and border crossing. The new technology while directly beneficial for its clients, will indirectly benefit those who receive products from those clients, according to a statement from the company. With the central processing location, clients will be able to work with the same contacts at YRC Logistics on a regular basis, meaning YRC Logistics will understand the clients cross border shipment needs and overall business better, the statement read. We are pleased to announce the placement of the innovative kiosks in these key locations, stated Jim Ritchie, YRC Logistics president and chief executive officer. It will allow our clients and employees to have a central communication point when shipping goods across the U.S. and Canadian border.
