CROWN POINT Crown Point will observe its 140th annual Memorial Day May 25 and 26. Decoration Day 140 Years Later is the theme for this years activities that honor men and women who have defended America. Events begin Sunday, May 25, in Veterans Park with an ecumenical church service at the bandstand in the park at 11 a.m. Throughout the day Civil War reenactors representing the 55th Virginia CSA and 157th New York USA will be joined by crafters, vendors, childrens rides, games and food. Clowning Magicians will perform noon to 2 p.m. Karoake will be available 2-5 p.m. Faded, a country-rock band, will perform 6-9 p.m. The day will conclude with fireworks at dusk. Sunday, May 27, will begin with an ecumenical church service at the bandstand in the park at 11 a.m. Mondays activities will begin with the traditional solemn tour of the cemeteries and memorial sites. Services will be held 8:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery; 8:45 at the First Congregational Church; 9 a.m. at the American Legion Post / Crown Point Center; 9:30 a.m. at the Ironville Cemetery; 10:15 a.m. at White Church Cemetery; 10:45 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery; 11:15 a.m. at the Putts Creek Bridge; 11:30 a.m. at Forestdale Cemetery; and noon at Veterans Memorial Park. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and proceed along Main Street from Scared Heart Catholic Church to Veterans Park. Following the parade will be band demonstrations and an awards ceremony in the park.
