Chamber among top 20 economic development groups

PLATTSBURGH The Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce has been recognized by Site Selection Magazine as one of the top 20 economic development groups in the nation. The annual rankings are based upon an analysis of various economic performance indicators tracked in Site Selections database, matched with the actual contributions of specific economic development organizations toward the attainment of positive numbers, trends, industrial diversity and actual deals. This is very gratifying, stated chamber president Garry F. Douglas. Not only because it recognizes all of the good work of our staff and volunteers, but because it puts another spotlight on the North Country as a place that site selectors and investors should be looking to. Douglas attributes the chambers selection to its strategic vision for the region and its multi-faceted approach to economic development including transportation infrastructure, border facilities, regional partnerships, workforce development, and government affairs, as well as marketing and the facilitation of economic development deals such as Akrimax Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point. I especially want to point to the great work of the chambers vice president for economic development, Susan Matton, and our vice president for marketing, Michele Powers, stated Douglas. Together, theyre taking our chambers economic development efforts on behalf of the North Country to new heights. Douglas also noted that eight of the top 20 organizations are chambers of commerce, confirming the growing role that chambers are playing in strategic economic development across the country. The Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce is the largest business and economic development alliance in northern New York, linking more than 3,250 companies and organizations in Clinton, Essex, Franklin and northern Warren counties. It co-leads the Quebec-New York Corridor Coalition, led the successful campaign for a $107 million Port of Excellence project at the Champlain/Lacolle border crossing, serves on the Steering Committee of New Yorks Tech Valley, and is engaged in airport and tourism marketing on behalf of Clinton County.
