Police arrest alleged child stalker

PLATTSBURGH A city man has been arrested following allegations of stalking two young girls. Nicholas A. Belvedere, 27, Gleneagle Drive, was charged May 2 with two felony counts of second-degree stalking, two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one misdemeanor count of making a punishable false written statement. According to city police, Belvedere allegedly repeatedly followed two 12-year-old girls to and from school, offering them a ride. The Plattsburgh Police Department received a complaint from a parent reporting their daughter and daughters friend had been offered a ride and followed on several occasions by a male matching Belvedere's description driving a vehicle that matched the description of his vehicle. Belvedere was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court before the Hon. Mark J. Rogers and remanded to Clinton County Jail where he remains on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to city court May 13.
