Famed musicians from Romania are scheduled to perform in a classical music concert, Trio from Transylvania, at Tannery Pond Community Center, 7:30 p.m. Saturday May 10, Featured will be selections from the composers Beethoven, Grieg, and Shostakovich. The trio is lead by cellist Ovidiu Marinescu, one of the outstanding musicians of his native Romania. He was chosen to play at Carnegie Hall for Romanian President Constantinescu on an official visit to the United States. Known for his powerful interpretations of orchestral works by Russian composers, he has recently been invited to record with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra. Marinescu is joined by Sylvia Ahramjian, acclaimed for her spirited violin performances. Ahramjian is a graduate of the Juilliard, Ahramjian has performed as soloist with orchestras around the globe, including the Bucharest Symphony. Rounding out the trio is award-winning panist Eugene Albulescu who has performed and recorded on four continents. A New Zealand artist of Romanian origin, his debut 1994 recording Albulescu Plays Liszt earned him a top international award for the best Liszt recording of the year.
