Westport narrowly defeats IL/LL Boys

WESTPORT The Westport Eagles used an 18-13 fourth-quarter run to overtake the Orange in sectional sem-final action last week. The game was close throughout, with Westport holding a 15-14 lead after one and Indian Lake/Long Lake a 30-28 edge at the half. The Orange did go up by seven early in the third quarter before settling for a one-point lead -- 39-38 -- heading into the fourth. The Eagles then took the lead for good, at 51-48, on Nathan Gay's conventional three-point play. Gay led the Eagles with 26 points and nine rebounds, while Bo McKinley contributed 14 points and Curtis Mead, eight. Jeff Reynolds played a huge game for the Orange with a game-high 27 points, including five three-pointers. and David Andrews added eight. Westport 56, Indian/Long Lake 52 Indian/Long Lake (52) Reynolds 9-4-27, King 2-0-5, Wallace 1-0-3, Andrews 3-2-8, Snide 2-0-4, Bain 1-1-3, Smith 1-0-2. Totals: 19-7-52.
