TICONDEROGA The 10th annual Best Fourth in the North Alumni Basketball Tournament in Ticonderoga has been changed to attract more players. The tournament has been moved to Saturday, March 22, at Ti High School. The Best Fourth in the North Alumni Basketball Tournament was originally scheduled for a week earlier, but was moved to take advantage of the Easter holiday which is expected to attract many alumni home for visits. By moving it back one week, which is the day before Easter, we hope to get a good crowd as well as a record number of alumni participating, explained Bob Dedrick, who is organizing the event along with Dan Crossman. Players are asked to come to the school at noon March 22. The tournament, featuring former Ticonderoga High School cagers, will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the school gym with three-point shooting contest. There will be a cash prize for the winner. There will be four games for men and women. All players will receive a souvenir T shirt The annual event serves as an unofficial reunion and a fundraiser for the communitys annual Fourth of July celebration. Most of last years players are expected to return this year and the new guys on the block, the Class of 2007, will their debut, said Crossman, chairman of the July 4th celebration committee. The last few years have been very competitive and this year should be even better. Donations at the door will be $3 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and students. Children younger than age 5 will be admitted free. The July 4th celebration committee will sell pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, candy, water, soft drinks and home-made baked goods. There will also be a raffle for gas cards. All proceeds will go toward Ticonderogas 2008 Fourth of July celebration. So come early and support our former hardwood heroes of the past and help support the Best Fourth in the North, Crossman said. For more information contact Dedrick at 585-7408 or Crossman at 585-7009.
