Woman claims she spotted missing college student

Feb. 18, 2008 Middlebury College Public Safety requested assistance with a 13-year-old male who had been in the college library. Feb. 19 An unknown person reported a burglary at 62 Court St. $97 stolen. Arrest of Elizabeth M. Neilson of New Haven on the charge of burglary. Feb. 20 MPD assisted the Warren County, N.Y., Sheriffs Department on cases involving possession of stolen property and writing forged instruments at various retail stores in Queensbury, N.Y., and Vermont. Personnel at Middlebury Short Stop, 220 Court St., reported Nathan Davis of Ripton and Rodney Thompson of Starksboro were harassing a store clerk over tobacco identification. Both men left upon arrival of MPD. A woman identifying herself as Diane Vardakos of Easton, Conn., contacted MPD with a report of seeing what she claimed was missing Middlebury College student Nicholas Garza. The woman saw the man in a restaurant in Fairfield, Conn. She reported the man ate quickly and paid for his meal with cash. Karen Shaeed Robinson of Middlebury was collared for possession of cocaine as a result of a pursuit by MPD Officer George Merkel on Route 2007 in October 2007. A plastic bag containing white residue within the vehicle was confiscated. A drug analysis by the Vermont State Lab confirmed the bag contained cocaine. MPD assisted the Brandon P.D. on a traffic stop. K-9 Blade alerted MPD Officer Merkel of the presence of narcotics. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant.
