Thanks for making Radio Day a success

To the editor: Thanks to the phenomenal support of the Tri-Lakes communities, the 2008 High Peaks Hospice Radio Day exceeded our wildest dreams. The response to our 14-hour radio/telethon was unprecedented. 590 individuals, businesses, organizations and schools made pledges totaling $72,000, shattering the 2007 record! We would first like to thank all who donated so generously to this years Radio Day. All of us at High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care the staff, board of directors, our patients past & present and their families extend a huge thank you to all who made this years Radio Day such a success. We would like to extend special thanks to the students (staff & families!) of LP Quinn School and the Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union. Strong community support such as this demonstration is imperative as we continue to grow as an organization. Our increasing numbers include a rise in the number of patients who do not have insurance. Events such as Radio Day help us raise the money needed to offset the increased expense of providing care to these individuals. These events also provide a means to offer other services and other expenses not covered under medical insurance reimbursements such as our Bereavement Program. I would also like to thank our corporate sponsors: Shaheens Supermarket, Lakeside Office Products, the Wilkins Agency in Lake Placid, Hyde Fuel, Community Bank, Time Warner, Lamb Lumber & Rice Furniture, those who donated raffle items, Dr. John Murray who donated $800 in dental services and to an anonymous donor whose generosity enabled us to offer $500 in fuel oil to the many businesses that donated incentive gifts that helped to encourage people to call in pledges, as well as those who made challenges. Finally I would like to thank the individuals and businesses, whose efforts made the 2008 Radio Day happen: Adirondack Medical Center, Mountain Communications, Time Warner, Sandy Bandru, Jim LaValley, Chris Knight, Rick Knapton, Ted Morgan, Shirley Oehler, Ken Boyle and the numerous volunteers which assisted us throughout the day. We truly appreciated the delicious food donated by Lakeview Deli and North Country Community College Association & Quandts. To each and every one of you: Thank you, you are awesome! Darsie Townsend, Development Director, High Peaks Hospice &Palliative; Care
