Debby Davis, Appalachian Still to headline Lake Placid ILBBQF

LAKE PLACID A pair of national recording artists, Debby Davis and Appalachian Still, headline a list of 10 musical acts scheduled to perform during the third annual I Love Barbeque Festival (ILBBQF), Friday through Sunday, July 4-6. Appalachian Still is an acoustic string band that mixes alternative old-time, Americana, folk, and bluegrass with flavors of jazz and country. The Northampton, Mass., five-member band has released one CD entitled Lost and Found, which is already in its second printing and the bands songs are now featured on several commercial and college radio stations throughout New England. Described in the Los Angeles Times as wielding an electric guitar as if it were a wand, Davis began her blues career in 1984 where she was the lead guitarist for an all-female band, Maggie Mayall and the Cadillacs. Local bands that will fill the three-day music slate include Sven Curth, Pat Duffy, Heritage, Hotrod, Hoodlums, Loud and Stupid, Slow Natives, Stoneman Blues Band, Super Unstoppables, Towne Meeting and Raisin Head. All performances, as well as the ILBBQF festival, will be held on the festival stage, on the Olympic speedskating oval. The ILBBQF has also tapped into the popularity of the hit reality television show American Idol, with its own version of Lake Placid Idol sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Seven musicians and/or groups, including Lowell Bailey, Jared Bashant, Cliff Berg, Heather Bickford, Elephant Bear, Mickey Healy and Moon Rock have been selected to perform Saturday, July 5. The top three acts will be invited to perform at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Friday, Sept. 5 and compete for a first-place prize of $1,000.00. The second place act will earn $300.00, while the third place performer will come away with $200.00. General admission tickets for the third annual ILBBQF are $6 for adults, while children 12 and under will be admitted free. Gates open Friday, July 4, at 5 p.m., while on Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6, the gates will open at 10 a.m. For more information on the Lake Placid, NY I Love Barbeque Festival, visit www.ILBBQF.com.
