North Creek Depot platform lecture series

NORTH CREEK On June 29, from 4:30-6 p.m., the North Creek Depot Station will once again bring lectures to the platform. Bring a comfortable chair and lend a willing ear, while two historians discuss the following topics: Tracking The First Dictator of the Railroad World: Dr. Thomas C. Durant of the Union Pacific and the Adirondack Railroad. Notes From a 23-Year Chase David Haward Bain, author of the award-winning Empire Express: Building the First Transcontinental Railroad and The Old Iron Road: An Epic of Rails, Roads, and the Urge to Go West, shares field notes from years of research touching on the adventures of the Baron of North Creek, Progenitor of the Adirondack Great Camps. This year Ray Flanigan, one of the North Creek Depot Museum's historians, who has delivered previous talks on Theodore Roosevelt links two Presidents, our own Teddy Roosevelt, of course, and Civil War President Abraham Lincoln in a most unusual and interesting manner. What's the link? Come, listen and find out. Rays talk covers how Abraham Lincoln got on the one cent coin, why Lincoln is facing right when all of the other Presidents on our coins face left and for the art students in the audience Ray will also touch on the most reproduced piece of art the world has ever known. The talk is easy to follow, and filled with fun facts. As expected Teddy plays a major part in all aspects of this talk. The Platform talks provide a chance to learn a little history while enjoying the beautiful Adirondacks. These talks are free and open to the public refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by the North Creek Railway Depot Museum. Contact the Museum at (518) 251-5842.
