Library seeks funds for expansion effort

To the editor: As in 2003 and 2007, we are once again appealing to all area businesses, corporations, foundations, community organizations, friends, neighbors, summer residents and school alumni who helped us complete Phase I in our expansion program, to answer answer our appeal as we continue with Phase II. If you haven't been in the Richards Library, please stop by and give us an opportunity to show you the improvements that are being completed. Funds that are received will be used to continue with the interior to include the furnishings, the floor, electrical, plumbing and the elevator. With the rising cost of construction, it is important that we proceed as fast as we are able to commit funds. As in the past, the Richards Library needs your continued financial support to complete the project. State Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward has provided a significant boost to our fundraising efforts to complete the library expansion project. In 2007, Sayward presented the Library with a check for $100,000 to continue the project. The grant provides 20 percent of the funding needed the goal is $500,000 to complete Phase 2. Equally important is the confidence that she has demonstrated in our community to achieve our fundraising goal. In 2007, individuals in the community were canvassed for additional financial support and it was very successful. The remaining work was prioritized and significant progress has been achieved. If you are a user of the Library, then you already know the important role it plays in the fabric of our community. The library provides a valuable cornerstone for the educational advancement of our children and adults alike; a setting for leisure reading, research, computer technology, story hours and in the future a community meeting place. With your ongoing generosity, we expect to complete this project and open our new addition to serve our community. Donations may be sent to the Richards Library, 36 Elm Street, Warrensburg, NY 12885. Thank you for your continued support, The Board of Trustees, Richards Library, Warrensburg
