ALBANY A citizen of Roxboro, Quebec, Canada pleaded guilty May 30 to the misdemeanor offense of attempted illegal entry by an alien. Mohammad Tariq, 49, admitted he concealed facts about his background May 16 in an attempt to enter the United States from Canada at the Rouses Point Port of Entry. Tariq was sentenced by the U.S. Magistrate Judge Randolph F. Treece to 15 days time served and was immediately remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security for removal proceedings. The matter was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, Champlain. In another matter, a Canadian citizen pleaded guilty May 30 to the misdemeanor offense of attempted illegal entry by an alien. Wilson Duarte Rosario, 28, admitted he made false statements May 17 about his background in an attempt to enter the U.S. from Canada at the Champlain Port of Entry. Duarte Rosario was sentenced by Treece to 30 days in jail. The matter was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, CBP, Champlain.
