Handbell choir performs at UMC

RUTLAND The Bells of Joy Handbell choir, under the direction of Karen James will present their 25th annual Summer Concert Tuesday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church at 71 Williams St. Musical offerings from the church calendar year, as well as original compositions by contemporary composers will be presented on this unique instrument of five octaves of Handbells and three octaves of Handchimes, plus a variety of other instruments. Director Karen James will ring a six-in-hand selection written for solo handbells, accompanied by Curtis Moeller on piano. James will be joined by Jeannie Cushman to present a duet of Amazing Grace and Kum Ba Yah (sic), accompanied by Rita Lane on piano. The program will also feature The Shrewsbury Wind Quintet: Licia Gambino Hamilton, Flute; Gail Grycel, Oboe; David Klock, Clarinet; Dick Dodd, French Horn; and Lindra Moerdyke, Bassoon. The Shrewsbury Wind Quintet was formed in 2001 as the faculty ensemble for the Shrewsbury Chamber Music Society. They have performed throughout Vermont in concert venues and in schools, featuring a quintet adaptation of Prokofievs Peter and the Wolf. A freewill offering will be received.
