SYRACUSE Norma V. Menard of Mooers, was recently presented with the Delta Kappa Gamma Society Internationals Verna Mulholland Friend of Education Award at the Pi State awards luncheon in Syracuse. The award honors those who work to improve the educational opportunities of others. Menard has been the executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County since 2000. In this capacity, she has served non and low-literate adults, resulting in employment gains, becoming involved in their own childrens education, using literacy skills for healthier lifestyles, achieving citizenship, and registering to vote. In working with learners of the English language, the program provides immigrants with basic language skills to enable them to deal with necessary life skills. Menard is credited for doing this in a welcoming environment, organizing social events to celebrate the diversity and cultural differences. Menard is also an active member of the Duenas Worldwide Association Inc., a college scholarship program based in Iloilo City, Philippines. Norma has truly given outstanding service in promoting quality education and has significantly worked toward improving the educational opportunities of others, said Ann Bailey, a local member of the Psi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
