New restaurant opens

MIDDLEBURY The Addison County Chamber of Commerce was happy to help welcome owners Jim and Sharon Doria of Dorias Restaurant with a festive grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new business on Merchants Row in Middlebury. Dorias is owned and operated by Jim, Sharon and son Josh Doria. The Doria name started in Middlebury food service in 1930 with Leonard and Margaret Doria at the Blue Door Restaurant which is now a downtown bookstore. The Dorias moved to 3 College St. two years later to open a grocery store with their three sons, John, Ernie and Joe. The store operated there until 1965. Jims Dorias father John stayed in the grocery business opening a store on Route 7 South next to a local drive-in until 1969. Then John Doria relocated to College Street at the current location of Middlebury Market. Jim Doria has been in food service for the last 30 years as a chef in Reno, Nev., at Middlebury College, and North Carolina. Jim Dorias son Josh has followed in his fathers footsteps by attending New England Culinary Institute and working in local restaurants as a chef. Dorias menu will feature local products such a beef, sausage and beer. Addison County restaurnt goers look forward to patronizing a tradition of locally owned friendly service with authentic Italian cuisine.
