Motorcyclist injured as driver takes left turn

WARRENSBURG A motorist turned her car left directly in front of a motorcyclist on Wednesday afternoon causing a collision that resulted in hospitalization for the cyclist, police said. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Laura E. Smalley, 25, of Clifton Park was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile west on State Route 418, when she turned left toward a private driveway, crossing into the path of a 2006 Honda motorcycle traveling east on the roadway and driven by Robert Sorrentino of Ridge, NY. Sorrentino, 24, was transported to the Glens Falls Hospital by the Warrensburg Emergency Squad. Information on the condition of Sorrentino was not available from the hospital Thursday morning. Assisting at the scene were emergency responders from the Thurman Emergency Squad and the Warrensburg Volunteer Fire Co., as well as the state Police. Uninjured in the incident, Smalley was issued a traffic citation for failure to yield the right of way. She is to appear in the Warrensburg Town Court on a later date. The accident was investigated by Warren County Patrol Officer Jeremy Coon.
