Shelburne Art Center features craftsmen

Officials at the Shelburne Art Center unveiled a special show last week exhibiting the work of two talented craftspeople. Hoyt Barringer is showing his current body of work- including functional and sculptural works. Joseph Powers is showing newly completed, one-of-a-kind fine furniture. From Reflection to Refinement is a show that creates a bridge for the audience bringing a closer look at the craft process and the thought, time, resource and detail that goes in to each piece. Both Hoyt and Joseph move through a unique process- clay and wood require different tools, time, skill and approach. Yet each process begins with a natural material and the skill to bring new life to that material. Together, the character of the material and the vision of the artist bring us intriguing new forms. The functionality of these works helps to ensure that they have a long life in the home or other setting. The Shelburne Art Center was founded 65 years ago to teach and celebrate American Craft in a studio setting. Today our studios continue to be the foundation of the organization, with instructors, students, and participating craftspeople at the heart of our work. The Art Center Gallery, located at 54 Falls Rd., displays and sells American crafts and fine art year round.
