Police seek help with Dorset Street arson

SOUTH BURLINGTON On May 23, at approximately 2:13 a.m., a passerby observed a fire at the rear of 100 Dorset St. in South Burlington. The observer notified a local business employee who in turn telephoned emergency 911 to summon the South Burlington Fire Department. Upon arrival on the scene, Fire Chief Douglas Brent saw the rear wooden wall of EMS and some adjacent recyclable material was on fire.The fire was extinguished quickly. Brent reported this is the second similar fire at this location in the past seven months (the first fire was in November 2007). The chief contacted the Vermont State Police to request an Origin and Cause investigations. A fire investigator from the Vermont State Police along with detectives from the South Burlington Police Department responded to the scene to initiate an investigation. The investigation revealed this was an intentionally set fire. The detectives are in the process of following up on evidence that was collected at the scene as well as leads that were uncovered during the investigation. Investigators are requesting that the person who initially observed the fire contact them at any of the above phone numbers. Damage to the building and adjacent A.C. unit is estimated at $10,000.
